Yin Yoga

Do you ever wish your life could just slow down a little?

Are you always on the go with your head full of to do`s?

Yin yoga – could be a perfect time out for calming and

cooling down. It is an ideal complement to physically active

(Yang) practices as well and much needed for anyone who

needs to unwind any tightness in their body, mind, or heart. People need balance in their busy yang lifestyle. Yin relates to slowing down, finding stillness and cooling the body. It is the stable, unmoving, hidden aspect of things.

Yin yoga is a very passive and meditative approach to yoga, that targets the deeper layers i.e. connective tissues and energy meridians of the body. Connective tissue responds best to a gentle, but steady load, while the muscles are kept inactive, which is why we hold the poses for longer (3-10) minutes. In response, they will gradually turn longer and stronger. They will also be better hydrated, that helps to regulate the energy flow (Chi or Prana) in the body. Usage of props in yin practice (bolsters, pillows, blocks etc.) supports the muscles staying unengaged for longer periods of time and allows students to stay still in the postures. Also, because of the long holds majority of the poses are performed seated on the floor or laying down.

Yin practice invites us to build a deeper relationship with our body and soul. Becoming still in a long-held position creates space of silence in our lives. By being present in the moment we can observe how this space fills up with emotions (anger, sadness, anxiety, fear, etc.), thoughts and feelings and with whatever, that needs to come up, and has been stored in our body. Yin state of mind teaches us to accept them, surrender and let go in the situation.

Yin is suitable for all levels, including beginners.
